My road to optometry may be considered ‘one less traveled’. I was 41 when I decided to go to optometry school in Memphis, Tennessee. Afraid, out of my element and a long way from home, I walked into my first class with 20 years of experience as an optician and as a manager of private and commercial optometric practices. I brought with me an AAS in Medical Laboratory Technology from Central Virginia Community College and a BA with a major in Chemistry from the University of Lynchburg. Most importantly, I brought a family and friends supporting me all the way. In 2001, I graduated from Southern College of Optometry summa cum laude and as Clinician of the Year.
I met my husband, Jim while in school in Memphis. This Mississippi boy with 7 siblings just knocked me off my feet. After graduation, we left the area to begin years of adventure in Pensacola and in Virginia where I established my own successful private practices. We decided in 2012 to come back to the Mississippi area to be closer to our children and grandchildren.
I realized after we settled into our home in Taylor that I was ‘not finished yet’! Eyes, etc. is about allowing me to bring together the ‘good’ from times past along with the ‘good’ that modern technology offers in order to provide each and every patient my very best in a pleasant and comfortable environment of caring for you, your family and our community.
Please come in and relax! Have a cup of coffee. Enjoy conversation on the front porch. I am sure you will see Jim, one of his sisters or many neighbors out and about. You may even run into our little Schnauzer, Bella Bea. She wants to be a therapy dog but I don’t know…..
So now you know our story. We would love to know yours!! Come see us soon.
